What a great thing you're realizing!! That even our family and friends are all gifts from God! First, I think it's amazing that as a fairly new mother, you're realizing this. I think your children will benefit so much growing up in a home that reinforces this. Secondly, JR spoke at the Calvary Rescue Mission a couple of weeks ago. He said something that has stuck with me ever since. He said "I want to ask you to pray for my friends, because so many people I associate with believe their wealth is actually a blessing from God. When in reality God's blessing only come by blessing others." That's all paraphrased of course, but I thought it was so powerful. Good for you and Jon for exploring these issues!!
Thanks for your comment, Elizabeth. James 1:17 tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from above. I would count my husband, children, "wealth", etc. as gifts. I think that wealth can be a blessing, but we squander that blessing if we don't use it to bless others. For the Bible also teaches that it is better to give than to receive.
In reality, any "wealth" that we do have isn't really ours. It all belongs to God's. I really like this quote, "God has placed in our trust a measure of time, a unique set of talents, and sufficient treasure to carry our His will for our lives. Our task as faithful stewards is to manage those blessings to bring the maximum glory to His name."
